New Year's Eve Appetizer: Sausage Puffs

Sausage Puffs

Put on your tiara.  It’s time to celebrate the New Year.  This lovely appetizer is easy to prepare ahead and pop in the oven when the guests arrive.  Men and kids love the sausage and you’ll love the sauce.  I always make plenty, because this is the most popular food of the party.

16 ounces kielbasa, cut into 1/2“slices
1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
1 egg, beaten
Sesame seeds and or poppy seeds
¼ cup apricot jam or marmalade
6 tablespoons Dijon mustard

Brush the sheet of thawed puff pastry with the beaten egg, sprinkle on the seeds, and cut into shapes using a small cookie cutter. Top each sausage slice with the pastry and skewer the stack with a toothpick.  Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment or coated with cooking spray and bake at 400 for 15 minutes or until the pastry is golden.  Stir together the jam and mustard and serve the sauce with the Sausage Puffs.  Serves approximately 2 dozen puffs.
