Snow Ice Cream
Gathered at the back door, we watched our Grandmother cautiously
tip toe down the porch staircase into white fluff. She collected a gigantic
mound of snow and would come sprinting back up the stairs. She, with great
flare and urgency, poured on her magic syrup, and with a couple of very careful
stirs, scooped the snow ice cream into chilled bowls. (You’ll want to make the syrup ahead
and have it chilled before you scoop up the snow.)
The Magic Syrup for Snow Ice Cream
8 cups of fresh clean snow
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
2 teaspoons vanilla
¼ cup sweetened condensed milk
In a small saucepan over medium heat, dissolve the sugar and
water. Whisk the vanilla and the sweetened condensed milk into the sugar
mixture. Chill. Drizzle the syrup over the snow and serve
immediately. Serves 4 – 6 bowls.
