Dagwoods
This is a fun and delicious sandwich for tailgating,
picnics and casual luncheons. The cubed ham can often be found at your grocery
store deli and the cut of the ham makes the sandwich easier to eat. I have also
used croissants or a toasted baguette for the bread.
6 Hoagie buns
¼ cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons Dijon
mustard
1/8 teaspoon coarse black pepper
¾ pound of Virginia ham, sliced in long cubes
12 Gherkin pickles
In a small bowl, mix together the butter, mustard and
pepper. Spread the butter mixture on the
inside of each bun. Slice the bun in half. Cut the ham into cubes that are
approximately 3 inches by1 inch. Place two ham cubes and one pickle in each
bun. Wrap the bun in a strip of parchment paper and
tie with twine. Chill and serve within 3 hours. Serves 12.
